The presence of Ether in the universe is discussed over the centuries by notable philosophers and scientists like Aristotle, Sir Newton, Einstein, Plato, and many others with a significant impact on the science of physics and its importance necessitated the establishment of Quantum Aether Dynamic Institute in the USA in 2004 to work on Ether concepts and theories. However, in biological or life sciences, no such concept and theory relating to Ether are yet proposed for the survival of living beings. Biological scientists consider oxygen as a living force necessary for life in a living being. However, one can argue on this matter as anaerobic microbes, also living beings, survive without oxygen, giving scope to think that besides oxygen, there is something else that provides life to the living being. Besides the oxygen, Ether and Ether waves are present in the air but their significance is not yet known. In this paper, the concept of Ether theory and ether waves is discussed for the living state of the living being.

Ether is known as a paradigm of existence for more than 2000 years, covering many fields like natural sciences, and medicine. According to ancient and medieval science, ether also known as aether, aither, or quintessence (fifth element after earth, air, fire, and water) is the material that fills the region of the universe above the terrestrial sphere. There is a large heterogeneity of the Ether concept. Aristotle (384 -322 B.C) first proposed the theory of Ether as the fifth element [1]. The other four elements can change in quality and quantity but the Ether is an invariant element that only circulates in the heavens or terrestrial sphere. It ignites the fire to give heat and light. It interacts with its analog on earth known as pneuma, which brings life to plants, animals, and men. Stoics (300 B.C) opined that all bodies consist of an inseparable passive and active principle where the passive principle is an inert matter while the active principle is embodied in Pneuma/ether giving life to the world.

Newton (1643-1727) stated that bodies could be composed of hard, impenetrable particles, additional light, and Ether particles. He proposes the Ether explanation of Gravity. Ether and matter repel each other. The Ether density increases with distance from the sun and the gradient employ a force. In the physiology and Theology field, it was said that Ether was a transmission of action between body and soul and light propagation. There was a rise in Ether theories during the 18th and 19th centuries particularly in the field of physics. Augustin Fresnel (1788-1827) stated that in solid life, Ether is at rest, however, in parts carried away by moving bodies and gave the carrier coefficient K= (1-1/n2) v. Lorentz (1890) suggests that moving bodies contract in the direction of their motion through the Ether by a factor of Y= √ (1-(v2/c2)).

Maxwell (1860) presented a famous Maxwell equation in the framework of a mechanical Ether model where light travels in the transverse undulation of the same medium which is the cause of electric and magnetic phenomena. Most physicists of the time believed that light traveled through what they called the luminiferous ether. In 1887, two American scientists Albert Michelson and Edward Morley built a device known as an Interferometer, which they hoped would enable them to prove the existence of Ether. In Plato’s theory of the cosmos, he writes that there are different kinds of air and the brightest part is called the Ether. Einstein himself never denied the existence of Ether (speech given at the university of Leiden, 5 May 1920 [2]), and stated the absolute necessity of the Ether [3] and was particularly clear on this point when he said

a) (p.68). The negation of Ether is not necessarily required by the principle of special relativity. We can admit the existence of Ether but we have to give up attributing it to a particular motion.

b) (p.69). The hypothesis of the Ether as such does not contradict the theory of special relativity.

c) (p.74). from the theory of general relativity space, is endowed with physical properties, in that case, therefore, an Ether exists. According to the theory of general relativity, space without Ether is inconceivable because the propagation of light would be impossible. The question about the compatibility of the existence of Ether with relativity has been considered by [4], who presented the concept of covariant Ether.

Generally, Ether theories claim to account for the interaction between two entities, the action of body A on body B. Body A alters the density of ether e. g. density increases with distance from A (Newton’s explanation for gravity). The force between A and B is due to the forces associated with the ethereal atmospheres surrounding the two bodies. Etheral matters flow from body A to B or vice-versa which is also known as heat theory. Etheral media transmit action from A to B, but without translational motion (fresnel’s solid ether consisting of vibrating particles). According to [5], the Ether is omnipresent and a medium for light propagation and governing all electromagnetic phenomena, thereby behaving as a solid and fully permeable at once. More recently several papers have been published on this subject [6]. In physics, aether theories propose it as the existence of a medium, a space-filling substance or field as a transmission medium for the propagation of electromagnetic or gravitational forces, much as sound waves are transmitted by elastic media such as air, water waves use the water as a medium or earthquake waves uses the earth as a medium for their transmission. The importance of the Ether theories necessitated the establishment of the Quantum Aether Dynamic Institute in the USA in 2004 to work on Ether concepts and theories. Although most of the research is being conducted in the physical and cosmic science field, the presence of Ether in living bodies and for a living state is not yet searched for or proposed.

Ether in living being

The biological scientist has not yet come with the presence of ether in living bodies however, in some script it is mentioned that in the human body, Ether is expressed within the empty spaces, the hallow of the empty intestines, blood vessels, bladder, and the lungs are filled with Ether. Vitiation of Ether in the body results in an increase of space and a decrease in structure which means the removal of ether from the living body may cause the loss of life [7]. In this paper, the same concept is hypothesized i. e. the ether is released in the form of an ether wave during the process of death or loss of life. The importance of oxygen for the survival of human life or any life can be argued as the anaerobic microbes, a live being, surviving without the utilization and necessity of oxygen, indicating that there is something else that provides life to the living being. Even in medical ICUs, the patients die in spite of oxygen ventilators, indicating that oxygen does not fully support the live state of the living being. In organ transplantation technology, the human organs are maintained in their active state for some period of time, taken from one place to another over far distances, without the live human body indicating that besides oxygen there is something else that maintains the live state of these organs [8-11]. Similarly, living materials like plant buds and grafts are kept alive for a certain period of time before budding or grafting. The microbes in inactive stages can bring to active stages by providing the medium of revival. Even some of the plant fruits separated from the plant live some days and their physiological and metabolic process run on, as seen in plucked ripening fruits. These are some of the issues related to the biological phenomenon of life. In the biological system, during respiration, we do not only inhale oxygen but air as such which also contains ether. The oxygen from the air is utilized by the body to produce heat to maintain the body temperature and in the process of burning oxygen, carbon is produced which is released with unutilized oxygen in the form of carbon dioxide. In this process of respiration, the heat energy released in the body maintains the body temperature required for other physiological and metabolic processes. It may be noted that during the phase of death, the body of the human becomes cool as there is no generation of heat as respiration is stopped. At this stage, the ether may be released from the living system in the form of ether waves to absorb in the ether medium or in the air. During the process of plant death and disintegration ethylene is released [12], but what is released during human death is not known yet. The hypothesis of Ether’s theory of life: A Myth or Fact, therefore, needs to be discovered by the biologist and medical scientists to solve several mysteries of biological science particularly in between life and death.
